Last year we started on our journey to design the ultimate all-around weapons package. The final design needed to meet several key standards:
The design really came together in the last 5 months. During the recent CRAZY buying frenzy in the firearms industry because of (insert your favorite apocalypse cause here), we’ve been building a huge variety of AR style weapons. This allowed us to not only get hands on experience with a bunch of different parts and accessories, but also get lots of feedback from customers about the features they’re looking for in a personal defense weapon. These last few months proved invaluable, and helped us check all the boxes on our list for the final design.
There’s a laundry list of reasons why the AR platform is so popular, but effectiveness is among the most important. A well built AR is accurate and simple to operate. For general defense, you’d have a hard time finding a better option. We went with a 223 Wylde barrel, a relatively new hybrid chambering. You can still shoot both 5.56 and.223 ammo through it, but without the performance loss you typically get when using .223 in a 5.56 barrel. So the best of both worlds.
There are a number of parts that need to be high quality if you want your build to be reliable, and there are some that you can safely skimp on to save money. The BCG, barrel, lower parts kit and optic are things that you can’t afford to cheap out on…. and we haven’t. Full specs are available on the product page, but the RöK is full of quality parts, and the INCLUDED optic is a Sig Romeo MSR. It’s one of the best bang-for-your-buck red dots on the market.
The problem with a typical 16″ barrel AR is that it’s not easy to lug around. The longer barrel may have advantages for accuracy at distance, but it makes negotiating obstacles and tight indoor spaces much more difficult. We went with a 7.5″ barrel, which won’t be winning any long distance competitions, but is plenty of length for any home defense or urban environment needs. Once we added the folding adapter, this pistol has a total length of only 18″ when folded (25″ when opened). The entire weapon fits in a bag that can be easily and comfortably carried anywhere. Oh yeah, we included the bag in this package!
